Installing an MCP server in ChatGPT is easy, the possibilities are interesting, but beware of security risks.
Recently, ChatGPT allows you to use MCP servers directly in the web application. Remember that these allow AI models to interact with external tools and resources. Remote MCP servers must allow secure connection to these services over the Internet. ChatGPT can send, retrieve data and perform actions, for example with Google Sheets or custom systems.
To install remote MCP servers, you must have at least a ChatGPT “Plus” or “Pro” plan. We use ChatGPT 5. We click at the bottom left on our profile then on Settings > Connectors > Advanced settings. We activate the “Developer” mode.
We then return in the previous window to the “Connectors” section. We click, next to “browse connectors”, on “Create”. In the window that appears, we copy and paste the server URL.
Be aware that MCP servers also carry risks. The “Developers” version of OpenAI is in beta. Servers can import prompt injections, malicious and hidden directives. Avoid sharing sensitive information there. It is also possible to report questionable servers to security@openai.com.
You can find a non-exhaustive list of these servers on GitHub. The resources cited favor stable MCPs, with regular updates and bug fixes. These are official servers hosted by the service providers themselves. They have already been tested by a community of users. Authentication relies on OAuth 2.0 or an API key. We have selected four that are particularly interesting.
1. Concept
The Notion Server allows you to search, read, and write to Notion, directly from a conversation in ChatGPT. You can configure the options that suit you.
In more detail, for the “Read” part, you can ask to display a page or obtain details on a database. For the “Writing” section, you can for example create a page, add an entry to a database, or modify existing content. Just ask it simply in natural language. The system takes care of translating requests into technical actions in the background.
For example, we ask to find the name of the last document we created in Notion. ChatGPT displays the called tools.
We see that the model makes an error by not respecting the constraints of the tool. It analyzes the returned error message and then corrects its own query to finally achieve the desired result. The AI assistant responds and then offers to provide more details. Finally the result is displayed and clickable.
2. Stripes
The MCP Stripe server allows you to manage almost the entire sales and invoicing cycle directly from a ChatGPT conversation. You can configure different tasks: create new customers and find existing ones, but also set up and list the products or services that you sell. It is also possible to invoice your customers. You can also issue refunds and manage disputes, or create discount codes.
In one of our tests, we simply ask ChatGPT to add a customer name to the online payment platform. At this stage, we must confirm whether we want to continue, because ChatGPT identifies a risk.
After giving our consent to the AI, and after verification, the customer’s name was added to Stripe. ChatGPT also allows us to enter the person’s email and telephone number. This is possible if he has the necessary access and authorizations.
3. Hugging Face
Hugging Face’s MCP allows you to explore, find and use AI models hosted on the platform. Specifically, you can find AI resources in the library, use some hosted AI models to create or transform images, or query official documentation.
In one of our experiments, we ask ChatGPT to tell us which accounts we follow on Hugging Face. The MCP allows the AI to discover this.
4. Zapier
The Zapier MCP server can implement a multitude of MCP servers itself. Go to the dedicated page. We choose “ChatGPT” as client. The “Tools” section offers a large number of tools. We select in “Gmail”, “Send email”, to send electronic emails.
To use this in ChatGPT, go to “Connect” at the top of the dedicated Zapier page. We copy the integration URL and paste it in the section dedicated to connectors in ChatGPT. We give the MCP a name, a description and we identify ourselves. By going to the page dedicated to MCP Zapier on ChatGPT, we see that the possibility of sending an email has been added.
Practical for sending emails for example, directly from ChatGPT.
The MCP responded to our request to send a message on AI news related to Zapier. The result is quite convincing and easily customizable.
