While the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) is essential, it also presents major regulatory, ethical and operational challenges. To maximize profits while minimizing risks, it is essential to have a strong governance framework in place and comply with evolving regulations.
The AI Act, which complements the GDPR, is the most recent illustration of this: it prohibits the recognition of emotions, real-time biometrics, predictive policing in public spaces and even social scoring, while imposing new restrictions on generative AI and recommendation algorithms. In this context, the question is no longer whether companies should adapt, but how to transform these a priori constraints into competitive advantage.
Significant but surmountable risks
AI governance must meet a triple objective: guarantee transparency, ethics and regulatory compliance, without slowing down innovation. This requires putting in place rigorous control mechanisms: management of algorithmic bias, protection of sensitive data, appropriate human supervision, regular audits and continuous adaptation of models. A poor estimate of these dimensions can weaken even the most ambitious projects.
Compliance, an accelerator of innovation
Faced with these challenges, the answer does not lie in a defensive approach, but in building a robust, ethical and trustworthy governance framework. Well thought out, compliance becomes an accelerator: it secures innovation, promotes the adoption of AI by customers and partners, and facilitates access to highly regulated markets such as the public or financial sector. Organizations that integrate compliance into the design of their projects – the famous “by design” approach – avoid costly corrections a posteriori and significantly improve their return on investment.
We still need to make it a collective approach. Compliance is not just a legal or technical subject: it concerns the entire organization. Defining a clear vision, engaging management, providing local support and training teams are all necessary actions to legitimize and secure initiatives. Acculturation to AI at all levels helps strengthen understanding and buy-in, while clarifying when its use is relevant.

Ultimately, four priorities are essential for companies: anticipate regulatory developments to maintain a competitive advantage; establish a robust governance framework to manage ethical, regulatory and operational challenges; take a proactive approach to anticipate obstacles and avoid complications; and above all, consider regulatory support as a strategic lever. Because far from constituting a constraint, regulatory support represents a tool for confidence, performance and opportunity.
