French companies in front of the generative AI: to have the courage to reinvent oneself

Artificial intelligence (AI) promises a deep transformation of the world of work and therefore of the company, becoming a “partner” of our professional, present and future daily life.

Artificial intelligence (AI) promises a deep transformation of the world of work and therefore of the company. Today, AI spreads faster than any other technology, changing our way of working and living. The technology changes era by switching from a data system (System of Record) to an action system (System of Action). In other words, AI is no longer a simple “tool” but a “partner” of our professional, present and future daily life.

This promise to reinvent the professional world is undeniable. The technological fundamentals (accommodation, security, sovereignty standardization and data governance, etc.) are necessary. The majority of business leaders in Europe consider that their data is not ready to be used by generative AI, particularly in a context where sovereignty takes a strategic place. Result: in Europe, more than half of the organizations are still in the early stages of operational maturity, finding it difficult to go beyond the evidence of concept (POC) of the generative AI. At a more advanced level, only 5% of companies deploy artificial intelligence on a large scale in France.

But the success of projects does not only depend on these technological fundamentals.

It is the ability to carry this change, starting with the leaders, and the preparation for the change of organizations, which are essential. 76 % of managers believe, for example, that the training efforts of their organization are struggling to keep the pace of the rapid AI advances.

However, the share of organizations ready to reinvent their mode of operation has almost tripled, from 7 % in 2023 to 19 %.

In France, 94 % of companies plan to intensify their efforts and strengthen their automation and AI capacities by 2026. But what does “reinvent” in this context? This is to carry out projects that go beyond a service or management to cross the whole business. It is to think of Bout-en-Bout and deploy on a scale, while adapting continuously. Companies that reinvent themselves must therefore be able to adapt their structures and skills.

So, what distinguishes organizations that succeed in the transformation of their models models from those who are lagging behind?

It is above all the consciousness that the generative AI is more than a technology but the engine of a cultural change which affects the whole of the company. The organization cannot, in this sense, be a dead angle of reinvention. But it is also, and perhaps above all, having the courage to reinvent yourself. And this responsibility is the first responsibility to the leaders.
