Openai launches the "apps" in Chatgpt and delivers an SDK

Chatgpt hosts third -party applications that can be used directly in conversation. An SDK Apps in preversion allows developers to design their own apps.

OPENAI has formalized this October 6, the arrival of integrated apps with chatgpt, accessible in Naturell language-“Spotify, create me a playlist”-and manipulable via interfaces integrated into the conversation. OPENAI simultaneously deploys an SDK Apps in preversion, built on the Context Protocol (MCP) model, to allow developers to create their apps. But the first apps already arrive, with partners like Booking.com, Canva, Racera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify and Zillow.

The launch first concerns users connected outside the European Union, on Free, GO, Plus and Pro offers. Opening to the EU and Business, Enterprise and Edu offers is announced for later in the year.

Concretely, in use, the apps appear at the request or in the form of a contextual suggestion when it is relevant. Examples given by OPENAI: discuss real estate purchase and bring out a filtered zillow card according to the budget; from a plan and ask Canva to generate a slideshow; Take a course on Racera and question a point in the video live. The promise is to make transactional and creative services more fluid, without switching out of conversation.

On the SDK side, apps bids should start “later this year”, with a compliance review and, in the long term, a dedicated portal. OPENAI also evokes upcoming monetization mechanisms, including the management of the Agentic Commerce Protocol for instant payment in Chatgpt.
