Developed by a former researcher from the Berkeley AI research laboratory, the tool saves time by letting AI make calls on your behalf.
If the market for professional vocal agents has been exploding for several months, that of personal vocal agents is still only in its infancy. Launched at the end of 2024 and update regularly since, the MITRA application allows you to leave control of some of your calls to an AI agent. The latter will call in your place and place with the aim of saving you time. Reservation in an establishment, negotiation with a customer service … Mitra promises to do everything (or almost) for you. In fact, the experience is still perfectible, on the fluidity of conversations … and the reaction of the interlocutors.
A new way of interacting with reality
Mitra is published by Deusmachina, American start-up founded by Sai Mandava, former researcher of the prestigious Bear laboratory of Berkeley University. “In our super digital world today, we have gone in front of face to face with SMS or telephone calls. But sometimes these interactions may seem time -consuming and stressful,” said Sai Mandava in a post blog. Mitra’s goal is to reduce this friction to a minimum using an automated and truly intelligent AI agent. “From now on, you can finally entrust to Mitra this tedious chore that is sometimes telephone conversation. You just need to formulate your request and Mitra will be responsible for calling,” promises the ex-researcher.
Several AI services, such as Elevenlabs in particular, already allow you to let an agent call for you. However, the initial configuration is very often heavy: it is not only necessary to configure a communication API (Twilo), configure the agency platform (Elevenlabs therefore), and finally connect everything to an AI supplier (Openai, Anthropic, etc.). Mitra brings together all complex technological bricks while displaying a very easy to use interface.
A personalized experience
Available in the form of a mobile application (iOS only, for the moment), the call agent is automatically configured using prompt. Cat’s experience is, according to our tests, very intuitive even for non-experts. The agent of Mitra has, like Chatgpt, a web connection and even a memory. The latter allows you to retain your personal information and preferences to avoid asking you before each call. The process to launch a call is very simple: just ask the agent, in writing, giving the maximum information. The AI then made the point before calling on the information available to it. If one or more information is missing, Mitra will ask you.
Once the process has been launched, the call is automatically initiated. The agent calls by presenting himself as your personal agent and takes the information for you. Once the conversation is completed, the application provides a summary of the exchanges, a complete transcription and voice recording. Among the possibilities, MITRA also allows you to leave a message on a voice box and even call you if the call requires important decisions or urgent information. Even more impressive, the interface allows you to guide the agent IA live by giving him instructions while he is still on the phone. Finally, the app also allows you to add your own voice.
Make an appointment
Mitra can be used to make an appointment for you.
Prompt: you’re going to make an appointment for two people at the XX restaurant at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday September 27. Reserve in the name of Benjamin Polge number xx xx xx xx xx).
The restaurant does not take a reservation, the bot asks what are the means to take a reservation. In theory, AI acts perfectly. In reality, the tone is very robotic and the response latency quite long. Result: the conversation is not fluid.
Ask for one or more information
For this second test, we ask the AI to take information. In this case the opening hours of a business.
Prompt: Call the XX store in XX XX XX XX and requests opening hours this week.
Mitra then manages to succeed in his mission and returns us the sales hours. The discussion is quite fluid, although a little latency still remains.
Formulas of $ 20 to 40 per month
MITRA offers 10 free trial minutes in telephone conversation to test his AI before any commitment. Two paid formulas are then available: pro at 20 monthly dollars (5 hours of calls) and first at 40 dollars (10 hours of calls). Beyond the volume of hours doubled, the first version allows for access in preview of the features deployed. Prices that remain relatively affordable compared to competition in the IA vocal agents market.
| Pro | First | |

| Monthly price | $ 20 | $ 40 |

Mitra opens an interesting path towards a new way of interacting with reality, but the tool is still far from perfectly successful. During our various tests (restaurant, hairdresser, hotel, etc.), we found that many interlocutors hang up as soon as they understand that they are not aimed at a human. Latence in the responses, which makes the conversation not very fluid, also remains a major obstacle. We have also tested with conversations in English, the latency is also similar (not directly linked to the language). In order for this type of service to really impose itself, two conditions seem essential: on the one hand, technological advances making it possible to drastically reduce the response time and make the voice more natural, and on the other hand, a broader social acceptance of the idea of exchanging with an artificial agent on the phone.
